Black Butler Vol. 29 | Book Review

We slowly start to come down from the high of the big reveal and the series starts to settle into the new way of things again. There are still so many questions but the story must press forward, we will have time to learn O!Ciel’s name in the future. For now, he and the servants need to set in motion a plan to stop R!Ciel from taking everything from beneath O!Ciel’s feet.

The volume opens by…

Black Butler Vol. 28 | Book Review

I have never been so shook by a manga in my entire life. I can’t believe Toboso has really changed the entire landscape of her story after more than a decade of writing it. More and more I think about things I’d brushed off and realize that they were all leading up to this reveal. I wonder how long she’s really had this planned. From all the way in the beginning? Was this something that was just…

Black Butler Vol. 27 | Book Review

The summoning is finally revealed! We’ve gotten glimpses of it in previous chapters. Hints of what it was like when Ciel summoned Sebastian to him but we’ve never seen the full thing. So much of Ciel was a secret that we couldn’t possibly explore the whole contract until this moment in the series. It has been a decade in the making but finally the place where this story started is revealed and…

Black Butler Vol. 26 | Book Review

Black Butler Vol. 26 | Book Review

This volume may have just changed everything. I’m wary to believe everything that’s happening here but it seems like Toboso is flipping the story on its head and giving us an entirely new narrative. It’s rare that something shocks me while also not feeling like it came out of nowhere but Toboso has managed it with this volume. I’m shocked, excited and my head is spinning from all that this reveal…

Black Butler Vol. 25 | Book Review

Black Butler Vol. 25 | Book Review

This is the first volume in a while that had me squealing like the teen fangirl I once was. I adored the scenes of the Phantom 5 performing and interacting with their fans! I don’t know how Toboso actually feels about idols but the execution of these chapters seems to show at least some level of love for them. Plenty of idol anime don’t even reach this level of quality with the character designs…

Black Butler Vol. 24 | Book Review

Black Butler Vol. 24 | Book Review

The Blue Cult Arc is full of fan service in the best way possible. I love the direction Black Butler has taken. There’s plenty of darkness and grit to it, but it also never takes itself too seriously. This volume opens with Elizabeth showing off her power again. It was fun to see her scrap with Sebastian when he can’t really hurt her. I’m curious to see what exactly is going on with Lizzie. It…

Black Butler Vol. 23 | Book Review

The Blue Cult Arc is getting started. I had no idea what this arc would be about when I started it. I went in completely blind and it blew me away with the direction it’s taking. I’m so happy to see the P4 again. They were such interesting characters I thought it was a shame they were brushed off so quickly after the Public School Arc where they didn’t really get to shine as much as they could. I…

Black Butler Vol. 22 | Book Review

Black Butler Vol. 22 | Book Review

The Emerald Witch Arc comes to a rather whimpering end. For an arc that started out so strongly and had so many good concepts I’m surprised by how to just slowly died down and quietly tied up. It’s such a bland ending for something that had such promise. I didn’t dislike the ending at all, it just didn’t feel as thrilling as I thought it might be. I loved so many of the scenes in this arc,…

*UF* The One That Got Away | Can’t Wait Wednesday

Why am I waiting on this title?

Romances aren’t always or even usually the genre I reach for but now and then there will be a premise that tempts me. This concept of a Bachelor style competition has ALWAYS been something that intrigues me. I don’t actually watch the show in real life but I always adore following it in books. I like both the perspective of the competitors and the prize. It’s…

*UF* I Guess I Live Here Now | Can’t-Wait Wednesday

Why am I waiting on this title?

Fiction focusing on KPOP and just Korea in general has been booming lately. There are so many books coming out that center around the fandom and general culture. My interest in KPOP itself ebbs and flows. However, I am ALWAYS thrilled to read about a country that isn’t America. It’s so nice to see other cultures and other places in the world through books. I like…
